The Daily Telegraph reports that "Carmina Burana has been chosen to kick off a series of large-scale classical concerts at the O2 Arena.  Carl Orff's 'pop opera' features hundreds of performers, dancers, singers, light projectors and fireworks".

SCCS can't quite manage all of this, but there will be nearly a hundred singers, professional soloists and seven percussion players.  The O2 prices start at £95 and reach £150.  Ours are much more modest, but you will still hear every note of Orff's extravagant setting of the 13th century words.

 Written in 1937, Carmina Burana is the most successful classical composition of the 20th century.  The opening chorus, 'O Fortuna', is still frequently used in film and advertising.  The music is simple but potent.  It is difficult to forget, as are the driving  and insistent rhythms.  There are moments of beauty and moments of terror.  It is an experience!
